Since the amendments in September 2007 to the Superannuation Industry (Supervision) (SIS) Act 1993, regulated SMSF’s are able to borrow to invest in direct property or shares subject to certain strict conditions.

Why Use a SMSF ?

The main attraction of SMSF’s is that you have control over where your retirement funds are invested, and with the aforementioned change in legislation, it means that direct property ownership (for investment purposes) may now form part of our retirement portfolio. There also maybe the possibilities of some tax efficiencies and reduction in administration fees.
